I love cooking. It is something I am truly passionate about; and, according to outside sources, something I am truly skilled at as well.

I also love art. Drawing, painting, sketching, photography - all have been my hobbies as long as I can remember. However, when it came to selecting a career, I realized my passion for art could be better served in the kitchen, not on the easel.

During my culinary schooling, I was able to narrow my focus even further when I discovered both my passions for cooking and art were best expressed in the design, creation and compilation required by the baking / pastry field. And down to this day, my favorite medium to work with is cake. Each cake appears to me as a blank canvas - a piece to be carefully crafted from the mixing of the ingredients, all the way to the very last decoration.

I have an associate's in Culinary Arts and a license in safety and sanitation. Also, in the area of pastry design there is always something new in the way of taste, technique and design, so up-to-date education and training are critical to staying on the cutting edge - I do much in the way of research to stay on top of this.

In the culinary field, many chefs try to "wow" the customer with a fantastic piece of art. When that goal is achieved, the customer's response is typically, "That looks too good to eat." More often than not, this becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy as the cake ends up being just that - inedible, or very much lacking in flavor.

This is why, on every occasion, the focus of Flower City Cakes is on making a cake that tastes at least as good, if not better than it looks. Every element of each cake is made from scratch. Frostings and fillings are comprised from recipes that have been tried and tested - no boxed cake mixes or canned frosting here. While finding the perfect ingredients to build each cake from scratch can be more time consuming, it only adds to the art of the finished product.

Beyond the traditional wedding cakes - Chocolate Tort, Fresh Strawberry Torte, Traditional White, Vanilla Chambord and Oreo are just a few of the tested and applauded flavors available. In addition, Flower City Cakes is always willing to experiment with new flavor combinations - whatever makes the customer happy!

At Flower City Cakes, the element of style is almost entirely based on you! Bring your wedding cake ideas to the consultation done before the creation of your piece. Sometimes the smallest idea can lead to the greatest inspiration. Cakes created have ranged in style from classical and elegant to bold or whimsical, but the final result comes from whatever input you have given.

Cakes created range in size from 6" to 16", and are priced according to design and make, with the exception of wedding cakes, which are priced by the slice.
